Five Tip Friday

Welcome to Five Tip Friday!

Each Friday, we'll post helpful tips about your BlackBerry device. From software to hardware, you can be sure to get the latest info on your device right here!

Special PRIV Tips:

1. "Ok Google" Phone Wakeup

You can wake up your device by just saying "Ok Google"! For this, You'll need Google Now installed on your device. [Get Google Now]

Step 1: Open Google Now and tap in the top left corner

Step 2: Select Settings

Step 3: Further tap on Voice

Step 4: Toggle On "Ok Google Detection"

You can also wake your device by double tapping the display. The Tip has been covered in our previous FTF.

2. Lockscreen Notification

Since the early days, BlackBerry 10 has a very useful feature and that is, the ability to view notifications without unlocking the device. This piece of utility is now also available with the Android 5.0 update. Which means, you can get the same utility on your Priv too!

Step 1: Swipe left from within the Hub to show the accounts menu

Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom and select Settings

Step 3: Scroll down and select Sound and Notification

Step 4: Tap on Notifications on Lock Screen

Step 5: Decide which content you want to view

3. Pinning the Apps

This means that the app sort of takes over your device; i.e. you can navigate inside that app, but it's very difficult to leave. This function may be useful if you are the kind of person who keeps accidentally hitting your fat fingers into the navigation buttons and leaving what you were doing.

Step 1: Swipe left from within the Hub to show the accounts menu

Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom and select Settings

Step 3: Scroll down and select Security

Step 4: Further Tap Advanced and then Screen Pinning

Step 5: Toggle on Screen Pinning

Now when you go to Overview, pinnable apps will feature a little blue thumbtack icon in the bottom right of their card. Tap that and Android will ask you to confirm that you indeed want to pin it. Tadah! You're done!
